Itinerary

A mix of riding and enjoying the region’s sfood and scenery.

Day 1

After meeting up outside Rome and making some distance on the autostrada, we wind up through the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise into the Marsi mountains to our first hotel to get to know each other over a meal (included).

Day 2

We will twist through the mountains, past the sulphur turquoise lakes of Barrea and Scanno, through wooded valleys and rock gorges, including the evocatively named Devil’s Pass (Passo Del Diavolo). We’ll stop for lunch in beautiful Sulmona with time to explore the home of confetti (the colourful sugar coated almond variety) before winding back to the hotel to relax.

Day 3

We’ll pack our bags and head to the next hotel in Cascia in Umbria, traversing The Gran Sasso National Park, past the highest peak in in the Apennines (Corno Grande 2476m 8,123ft) and across Campo Imperatore. Past the mountain top towns of Calascio and Santo Stefano Di Sassanio. The scenery here changes frequently and the mountain views seem to go on forever.

Day 4

Is a relaxed affair, with a long morning stop to see the fantastic old city of Spoleto before winding through valleys and over peaks to Castelluccio to have lunch in one of the restaurants just outside the town, still being rebuilt after the 2016 earthquake and overlooking the plateau famous for lentils and their colourful flowers. We’ll head back to the hotel via one of my favourite roads to Norcia, the walled town famed for prosciutto and truffle delicacies.

Day 5

We’ll head back towards Rome to allow people to drop any hire bikes off in the afternoon. Stopping for lunch along the way, of course!

Motorcycle Hire In Rome

These companies are available for motorcycle hire if you need. Booking as early as possible is highly recommended, especially if you have very definite ideas which bike you would like to ride! As an example of price, budget around €750.00 for a R1250GS from Hertz Ride. Allow for a total mileage of 1250km.
All of these providers have a nice, straight forward booking system online but if you need a hand please get in touch.
